While some shoe companies are known for their advanced technology or for their spiffy styles, Converse founded in 1908 by Marquis M Converse would be known for the Canvas All Star basketball shoe, with big thanks to a basketball player who promoted it.
Charles "Chuck" Taylor, a basketball player for the Akron Firestones, chose the Converse All Star as his athletic shoe and worked as a salesman for Converse, promoting the shoe and basketball to high school and college basketball teams. You can also call him a basketball ambassador, if there ever was one at the time.
As he gained popularity, Chuck Taylor added his signature to the All Star's ankle patch, and from then on the footwear would be known as a "Chuck Taylor" footwear, or simply the Chucks.
While leather shoes have replaced canvas footwear in the basketball court, Chucks have become a fashion accessory, with over 800 million pairs sold.
